Community Outreach and Education

LVCIL offers these and other outreach and education services to promote better understanding of the independent living philosophy:

Common Playgrounds is a disability sensitivity education program for schools and after school programs. Kids meet and learn from people with various disabilities in a fun, informative, and interactive skit program and then create posters that depict ways in which persons with all types of abilities can “hang out and be friends.”  

The LVCIL Freewheelers is an athletic organization supporting athletes with disabilities. Basketball, bowling, and tennis just a few sports offered by the Freewheelers.

The LVCIL Speaker’s Bureau has speakers that are available to lead discussions on a variety of topics, including disability awareness and accessibility in the workplace, in places of Worship, and places of public access.
