Welcome to the official website of the Lehigh Valley Transition Conference! A conference that will bring together young adults, parents, educators, and professionals in a forum for information sharing, education, and fun!
The conference will be held on Friday & Saturday, November 18 & 19, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, Fogelsville, PA.
What is transition?
Each year, thousands of young adults with disabilities, and their families, go through a process known as transition. This is the tumultuous time when a young adult with a disability is preparing to graduate from high school and is about to enter the "real world." All too often, these young adults are left unprepared for their transition, with their parents and schools also unaware of the services available right in their own backyard.
So, why a conference?
Over the years, many community organizations, school districts, and intermediate units in the Lehigh Valley have recognized that young adults with disabilities are often ill-equipped for their transition to adulthood. Through the development of special programs and collaboration, these entities have done a commendable job thus far in preparing young adults for the "real world." But, much has yet to be done.
What we hope to accomplish
The "Have you thought about... LIFE?" Transition Conference will bring together the major stakeholders in transition services in a forum for information sharing and education. We plan to empower young adults, educate parents, and connect teachers and professionals with transition programs and services in our area. Through the conference, we hope to bring about systems change in the Lehigh Valley in an effort to make our region a hub for transition best practices!
