Sign Language Interpreter Referral Service

Our philosophy is that deaf, hard of hearing and deaf/blind consumers have equal importance to that of hearing people and communication is a central issue. The SLI Referral Services were thus created to provide the deaf community with easy access to the highest quality interpreting services. After the execution of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, IDEA federal and state laws pertaining to individuals with disabilities led to an increased awareness for organizations throughout the nation to achieve full compliance with the ADA. As a result the need for reliable sign language interpreting services has escalated dramatically. Due to the collaborative efforts of the Northeast PA Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Allentown’s District Office of the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), local sign language interpreters and the deaf community, the LVCIL Sign Language Referral Service Program was conceived. Thanks to a start up grant from the Pennsylvania  OVR this aspiration has come to fruition.

The coverage area for the SLI Referral Services are Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe Counties and some townships in Montgomery and Bucks Counties. Our target market will include federal agencies, local businesses, hospitals, schools, theaters, courts, employees, employers, state and local governments.

Our Sign Language Interpreters are members of the
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and/or the National Association of the Deaf (NAD). These interpreters follow a strict Code of Ethics. They respect consumer preferences related to interpreters and methods of communication. Sign Language Interpreters are instrumental to the understanding of the deaf community in medical, legal, educational and business situations to name a few.

Our services are available 24 hours a day. In addition to providing interpreters for scheduled assignments we also offer emergency on-call services.
