Freewheelers

The Freewheelers is LVCIL’s adaptive sports program. However, the program is currently on hiatus as many members have stopped playing. The goal of the Freewheelers is to unite athletes with and without disabilities in the Lehigh Valley in an effort to build confidence, endurance, strength, and respect for athletic ability in all people.

The Freewheelers primary sport is wheelchair basketball. The team routinely plays games against local businesses, schools and organizations to raise awareness about adaptive sports and also raise funds to purchase more equipment, such as wheelchairs. In the past, the Freewheelers have played against Good Shepherd Rehabilitation, Lehigh University Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, Bangor Area High School and more. In 2015, the Freewheelers hosted a wheelchair basketball clinic for youth with disabilities sponsored by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and ABC Medical. The team also held a large wheelchair tennis tournament, sanctioned by the USTA, for many years before losing court space.

The team would like to fundraise to offer more adaptive sports opportunities to get youth and young adults with disabilities active and engaged. If you are a business, school or organization and would like to schedule a wheelchair basketball game against the Freewheelers, please contact us 610-770-9781.
